Convocation was hosted by Emma Cocker, Cordula Daus, Lena Séraphin in co-operation with Alex Arteaga. A collaboration between research cells Through Phenomena Themselves, Disruptive Processes and AIRA.

In this performance I I spoke a short three-word sequence over a long duration that was disrupted by the transportation of stones from one trouser pocked to another via my mouth. Each stone initiated a spoken text of three words in length which was rearranged with each utterance:

FAULT BELLS SLAB
BELLS SLAB FAULT
SLAB FAULT BELLS

These words were diverted, altered and rerouted by accident during the performance so that each individual word shifted slightly to a similar sounding word.

SALT FELLS BAD
FELLS BAD SALT
BAD SALT FELLS

SALT BAD FELLS
BAD FELLS SALT
FELLS SALT BAD

After three-hours the final three words were completely different to the original three.

FOLD CELLS BACK
CELLS BACK FOLD
BACK FOLD CELLS

FOLD BACK CELLS
BACK CELLS FOLD
CELLS FOLD BACK

The task of transporting stones into and out of my mouth and trouser pockets functioned as a furtive act, almost invisible or seemingly incidental to the task of speaking. The public space meant that audience members consisted not only of Convocation attendees but also members of the public.

Convocation asked: How do we experience language’s activity, affectivity, ambiguity, capacity, corporeality, density, elasticity, ephemerality, fluidity, fragility, illegibility, instability, intensity, inter-subjectivity, hybridity, materiality, multiplicity, musicality, occasionality, opacity, performativity, physicality, plasticity, porosity, potentiality, relationality, simultaneity, sensibility, sensitivity, sonority, spatiality, synchronicity, tonality, temporality, visuality, vitality?

Participants to Convocation Included the Ajauksia group, akcg (anna kindgren and carina gunnars), Emmanuel Alloa, Rachel Armstrong, Alex Arteaga, Marcel Bénabou, Mariske Broeckmeyer, Andrew Brown, Emma Cocker, Alexander Damianisch, Cordula Daus, Michael Dudeck, Patricia Ellis, Rob Flint, Katja Hilevaara, Juha Himanka, Katja Hock, Rolf Hughes, Liisa Ikonen, Esa Kirkkopelto, Anni Laakso, Harri Laakso, Cedar Lewisohn, Maiju Loukola, Tracy Mackenna, Danica Maier, Ralo Mayer, Emily Orley, Jaana Parviainen, Elle Reynolds, Filippo Romanello, Charlotta Ruth, Lena Séraphin, Katarina Šoškić.
